Security Analyst Breaks Down Prism [Security Now 408: The State of Surveillance (starting at 58 minutes 10 seconds)]
:::many of the key points covered noted below:::
Prism is not an acronym. As Security Now’s Steve Gibson points out, a prism splits light. He theorizes that the NSA domestic surveillance program is named based on its obvious technical implementation.
Gibson pieces together a puzzle to illustrate that the NSA has tapped the Internet at the tier-1 ISP router level to sniff your data out just short of its destination.
As he says, the method utilizes fiber optic cable splitters to re-route the data to NSA servers and then back to the intended destination.
This analysis supposes that the major Internet giants like Yahoo, Facebook and Google would be unaware that this was happening.
These companies are merely buying bandwidth from the tier-1 ISP’s, which represent the most central data collection point available on the Internet.
Gibson’s breakdown sounds entirely plausible to me and shows a rather elegant solution to the problem of spying on de-centralized systems. All you have to do is route the traffic heading to a handful of the major Internet Service Providers to your NSA servers first before sending it back after copying it.
Hello, NSA Utah Data Center.
The other interesting question posed here is, who owns that data once it leaves your computer?
The NSA believes that it owns all of the data in all of the world. Some, like me, think otherwise.
Other governments likely feel otherwise, and in the end, a collection of secretive spy agencies and private contractors collecting corporate communications of companies trying to do business with U.S. firms might shut the U.S. out of the global markets or at least diminish its standing.
A foundation for critical thinking. The Trivium.
As the statement “I AIN’T NOBODY’S BITCH” employs a double negative, what is truly being said here is “I’M EVERYBODY’S BITCH”.

well wikipedia still isn’t fully credible but the internet itself is full of information.THINKSQUAD: Neither is most classes on history.
Hence why a systematic form of critical thinking (i.e. the “Trivium”) is so very important for individuals to be able to logically assess & understand the world around them that is objective reality.
If anyone is interested in teaching themselves such a form of critical thinking that was purposefully removed from public compulsory schooling over 100 years ago, I highly recommend the following PeaceRevolution.org Podcast:

Learn yourself towards COGNITIVE LIBERTY!
Reasoning from the basic fact that each person owns and operates their own life exclusively, it follows that if everyone observes that there will never be an occasion to use force. But suppose that happens anyway. A violates the self-ownership of B. What then?
Having the exclusive claim to their life means that B has the moral claim to defend that life and all its attributes, and so is entitled to use defensive force to prevent the aggression — or, if it is already over, to restore their situation to where it was before the attack began. And if they need help, they are just as clearly entitled to hire it.
This kind of help is what we can call a ‘justice system.’ The purpose of a justice system is to right wrongs.
Today’s so-called justice system has little or no relationship with the righting of wrongs. Even a casual observer must notice its manifest failure. It fails to convict most of the guilty, fails to avoid convicting any of the innocent, and fails to compensate any of the victims.

School Sucks Podcast - 130: Logic Saves Lives (Introduction) - Empowerment and Self-Defense
“In almost every act of our lives whether in the sphere of politics or business in our social conduct or our ethical thinking, we are dominated by the relatively small number of persons who understand the mental processes and social patterns of the masses. It is they who pull the wires that control the public mind.”
-Edward Bernays

Richard Grove and Tony Myers from TragedyandHope.com join me for a general introduction to the series on logical fallacies. Our discussion covers how fallacies fit into the larger picture of critical thinking principles and the trivium (grammar, logic and rhetoric).
We also talk about the recent Republican debates, identifying techniques used by certain candidates.
And the primary benefits of learning logic:
1. SELF DEFENSE:
If you are a young person, targets are all over you; many different interests are trying to influence your values and actions.
2. PERSONAL EMPOWERMENT
Effective communication, logical organization of thoughts and freedom from contradictions.

More Deaths from Pharmaceutical Painkillers than Cocaine and Heroin Combined
Anthony Gucciardi | Activist Post | Wednesday, November 2, 2011
More Americans died in 2008 from pharmaceutical painkiller overdose than fatalities from illegal drugs like cocaine and heroin combined. Responsible for nearly 15,000 deaths in 2008, prescription painkillers have become wildly popular among Americans. The news comes after a previous report found drugs to outnumber traffic accidents in fatalities.
According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) statistics, as of last year more than 12 million were on prescription painkillers purely for the high they cause instead of their intended medical purpose.
Many of these individuals obtain the drugs by eliciting prescriptions from several doctors, known as ‘doctor shopping’ within the community. Others purchase them from underground drug rings and illegal online pharmacies, bringing the ingredients into question. It is no wonder that the amount of painkillers made available at pharmacies and even doctors’ offices has quadrupled from 1999 to 2010. In fact, the CDC has blamed irresponsible doctors for unnecessarily prescribing painkillers to patients who do not need them:
“More of a problem is now created by a few irresponsible doctors than drug pushers on street corners,” CDC Director Dr. Thomas Frieden told reporters in a phone briefing.
The issue is very similar to the current problems surrounding antipsychotic drugs. With 50% of all Americans to be diagnosed with a mental illness in their lifetime, antipsychotic drugs have become the most popular therapeutic class drug. Even as experts speak out against antipsychotics in a similar manner to how many are raising awareness against prescription pain medication, it seems that the medical establishment has ignored the evidence.
‘The system is awash with opioids, drugs that get people hooked and keep them hooked,’ Frieden said.
In 27 years, there have been 3 million deaths from prescription drugs, and 0 from vitamins. Prescription drugs come with up to 525 negative side effects, with around 70 being the average. Avoiding these drugs and utilizing high quality organic alternatives like whole food-based multivitamins and green superfoods will lead to a total health transformation without harsh side effects and an exponentially increased death risk.
