NEWPORT BEACH, CA — School officials confiscated a child’s bottle of Kombucha Tea and suspended him for 5 days. Police interrogated the child and asked personal medical questions without parental consent. The Vice Principal wanted the child to be enrolled in Alcohol Abuse classes.
Why?? Kombucha Tea apparently has a trace amount of natural alcohol in it, not unlike other fruit juices after a few hours of fermentation. The label confirms the amount as 0.05% (One Twentieth of One Percent). A beer would be roughly 100x more concentrated than this tea.
