“On July 2-3, 2011, John Taylor Gatto filmed “The Ultimate History Lesson” at Tragedy and Hope Studios, in Connecticut. He returned home to New York City, and on July 27, 2011, John suffered multiple strokes. He has spent the majority of the past year in the hospital and various rehab units, his insurance is depleted, and he’s now at home in a hospital bed.
In July 2012 we launched the “Gatto Fundraiser Pack” to help engage independent media producers to proliferate The Ultimate History Lesson while simultaneously raising awareness and funds for John Taylor Gatto. We had no idea at the time of John’s condition, or financial situation, it just seemed like the right thing to do. After all, John has dedicated the last 20 years of his life toward helping countless individuals around the world learn how to think for themselves, and write their own script in life.
Lisa and I visited with John and Janet Gatto on August 4, 2012; a month-or-so after he arrived home from rehab. We witnessed John in a state of decay, and quickly formulated a plan of action.
On August 5th, we discussed John’s status and our plan of action, which can be found here, in the form of a 1-hour video briefing. I also discussed our recovery plan for John in episode 062 of the Peace Revolution Podcast (minutes 8-20 during the opening monologue).
By today, August 16th, we have already had a few individuals help us get the recovery project rolling, and in the past few days, several individuals have requested a means by which to help us raise the funds to deliver the materials and resources necessary to John’s recovery. If you’ve ever been to www.JohnTaylorGatto.com in the past several years, you’ve likely noticed that John’s site has not been updated since 2008. We’re working with John’s business manager and his publisher to update and renovate John’s personal site, but it’s a slow moving process. Since we had created this site for John in 2011 to distribute The Ultimate History Lesson, it makes sense to leverage this site for his immediate benefit for fundraising in this instance.
All donations using the button below will be paid to John Taylor Gatto, and documentation of the donations being received and the funds being implemented to save his life will be shared with those who contribute. We’ve already been raising funds for John over the past 6 months, but now that we’ve seen for ourselves how dire the situation is (only because of lack of resources), we’re determined to do what we can, to help him get what he needs, to return to a self-reliant lifestyle. The entirety of briefings, strategy sessions, and review of the implementation of the plan is being archived in the Tragedy and Hope online community. It’s just Lisa and I here, so if you donate using this button, we’ll remain in contact with you, as explained below.
All donors contributing over $100 will receive a 1-year subscription to the T&H online community (our gift to you with our thanks) wherein you’ll have access to the updates and be in the company of those who are likewise funding John’s recovery. Anyone contributing more than $200 will receive the 1-year subscription, a copy of “The Ultimate History Lesson” (on 4-DVDs or 1 Blu Ray disc), and several bonus “thank you” disks. We’ll help you, you help John, and that helps everyone.” — Richard Grove, Executive Producer of the Ultimate History Lesson & co-founder of Tragedy and Hope Productions.
THANK YOU FOR DONATING WHAT YOU CAN TO THE JOHN TAYLOR GATTO RECOVERY FUND!
